Thankyou for your support of the Sport of Fencing in Australia.
The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) has today announced the allocation of funding to National Sporting Organisations for the 2017/18 financial year. The ASC has maintained its baseline allocation of $50,000 in participation funding to fencing, which is largely based on our number of registered 'active members'. However, as in recent years, we do not have the benefit of any dedicated high performance funding under the Australia's Winning Edge program.

Following review of our detailed written submissions and during lengthy face to face meetings, the ASC recognised that we have a number of potential high performance fencers (across all weapons) who are undertaking a dedicated training program. However, given the age and development stage of our athletes, the ASC did not feel that they currently fell within the performance categories required for a funding allocation (which essentially revolves around Olympic medal potential).

The AFF is continuing to work with the ASC to explore other opportunities to assist our athletes (and Australian fencing as a whole). We are also seeking to build on recent funding support received from the AOC and the FIE (both directly and through the OFC) to further the development of our athletes and coaches.
