It’s official. Australian cadet fencers Giorgia Salmas (Victoria) and Robert Ciccarelli (NSW) have been selected to represent Australia at the 2018 Youth Summer Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 6-18 October.

A formal announcement by the Australian Olympic Committee confirms the fencers’ places on the team, following their qualification through the process outlined by the International Fencing Federation and International Olympic Committee.

The two foilists were selected based on their top-64 achievements at the 2018 World Cadet Championships held in Verona, Italy in April 2018.

The young fencers will join nearly 4000 athletes aged 15 to 18 from around the world when they compete in Argentina.

They will be supported by AFF President Evelyn Halls, who was appointed in January 2018 as Chef de Mission for the Australian Olympic team.

The Buenos Aires games are the third Summer Youth Olympics, which were first held in 2010 in Singapore.
