Sabre clinics well received

The AFF sabre clinics are likely to become a fixture on next year’s national fencing calendar following positive feedback and strong overall turnout at the 2019 camps.

Designed by the National Sabre Coach and delivered by our most experienced coaches, the clinics give local athletes exposure to current international fencing trends. They also allow for skills development and testing against a broader group of athletes in a non-competitive setting.

Sydney hosted the first multi-day camp at the NSW Fencing Centre in January. Interstate and local fencers converged to work with coaches Alex Andre, Boston Fawkes and Jess Brooks and prepare for the season ahead. Profits raised from the Sydney camp funded additional sabre clinics in Adelaide and Perth prior to the respective circuit events held there, with coaches Mitchell Fox-Harding (in Adelaide) and Andrew Scott and Jess Brooks (in Perth) taking the reins.
